“CLOSE ONES/UP CLOSE” IS A personal project IN WHICH I DOCUMENTED MY family and friends exclusively on The Impossible Project’s “Black Frame” B&W instant film, using the legendary Polaroid SLR680 & SX70 CAMERAS. ¶ Chosen for its immediacy, the “Polaroid format” with its flaws & QuiRCS embodies the fleeting nature of moments—those we long to hold onto, preserved in small, tangible frames. ¶ Shot without elaborate lighting or studio setups, the series strips down emotion, offering a raw, uniform document of individuals at a given moment. ¶ Identical framing and composition bring the work into the realm of typology, an ordered contrast to the artist’s nomadic life across ten countries OVER twenty-five years OF living ABROAD.

Beyond mere portraiture, the project reflects on time, distance and connection. The inherent instability of instant film—fading and deteriorating—mirrors the shifting nature of relationships and the passing of time. And AS SUCH, LATEST IMAGES, SHOT IN SHANGHAI, remain the most intact—another testament to the proximity and presence of those portrayed.
